SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A recently unsealed settlement shows a Pennsylvania hospital and a physician paid more than $19 million to a couple who sued after their daughter was born with severe brain damage.

Charles and Marissa Vaccaro in 2014 accused Dr. Raymond DeCesare II of negligently delivering their daughter at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton in December 2012. The agreement was unsealed Tuesday.

The suit states Marissa Vaccaro showed signs she had experienced a medical event that was depriving the baby of oxygen. The suit says DeCesare failed to immediately perform an emergency cesarean section despite those signs.

The Times-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2ih4Muq ) the girl suffered extensive brain damage. She was left unable to walk, talk or feed herself..
