ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Drivers in much of northern and central New Mexico will encounter snow-packed and icy roadways as a strong Pacific cold front races across the state from west to east over the holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service also says heavy and blowing snow late Saturday night and early Sunday morning will restrict visibility.

Predicted snow amounts from Saturday night through Sunday include 8 to 12 inches at Chama, 1 to 2 inches in Albuquerque, Farmington and Raton and 2 to 3 inches in Santa Fe and Taos.

Meanwhile, strong and potential damaging westerly winds are expected along and east of the central mountain chain Christmas Day where gusts between 60 and 65 mph are likely.

The weather service says power lines, holiday decorations and lawn furniture may be blown down.
