JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - A Johnston man has been released from a hospital after police say he shot his daughter to death after she stabbed him during a Christmas Eve dispute.
A Rhode Island Hospital spokeswoman says Robert Sutherland was discharged Monday afternoon.
Johnston police say the 55-year-old Sutherland fatally shot his daughter, 28-year-old Jessica Sutherland of Providence, after she stabbed him in his home Saturday afternoon.
Police officials say they’re investigating whether Robert Sutherland shot his daughter in self-defense. No charges have been filed.
Authorities say it appears Jessica Sutherland’s daughter, about 10 to 12 years old, was living in the home and was not injured in the incident.
Police say they had responded to the home several times before for domestic incidents.
A message seeking comment was left at Sutherland’s home Monday.
