BELLEVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man shot and wounded by police last week is now facing aggravated assault and weapons charges.

Cesar Delgado was shot Dec. 21 at a Belleville home. The 30-year-old township resident remained hospitalized Tuesday in intensive care.

Essex County prosecutors say that due to an ongoing domestic dispute, police went to the Joralemon Street home with a person who wanted to retrieve some personal property from the residence. The officers soon encountered Delgado and the shooting occurred a short time later.

The shooting is under investigation by the prosecutor’s office. Such reviews are standard procedure in shootings involving police officers.

Delgado faces two counts of aggravated assault and four weapons counts related to a stick and knife he allegedly possessed. He’s also charged with harassment and contempt.
