NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - The body of a 75-year-old man, who had been missing since Christmas, has been found stuffed in a garbage can in the backyard of his Jeanerette home.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says Howard Poche’s body was discovered Wednesday. Authorities arrested 23-year-old Jeffery Lee Marks, of Jeanerette, on one count of first-degree murder. KATC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2iuONpI ) detectives learned of Marks’ alleged involvement through an anonymous tip.

Poche was reported missing after he didn’t show up for church on Sunday. Investigators reportedly found a bloody knife and blood splatters in Poche’s home.

Ackal says investigators don’t believe Marks and Poche had a connection, but Marks reportedly knows Poche’s cleaning woman, Michele King, who was arrested the same day as Marks on separate charges involving drugs and criminal trespassing.
