HEBER-OVERGAARD, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an 82-year-old man was pinned under the car after his 51-year-old son tried to spin an off-roading vehicle on ice and ended up flipping it instead.

The son, identified as John Galavis, is believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was booked into Navajo County Jail on drunken-driving charges.

The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office say the incident happened Tuesday near Black Canyon Lake and that two boys, ages 8 and 9, were also in the utility task vehicle, which are similar to all-terrain vehicles.

Deputies had to use tow straps to lift the UTV off the elderly man, who was hospitalized.

The sheriff’s office says it’s seen an increase in ATV and UTV accidents and is aggressively enforcing rules.
