BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - A 49-year-old Anaconda woman was fatally stabbed in her apartment and police have arrested her ex-boyfriend.

Anaconda Police Chief Tim Barkell tells The Montana Standard (bit.ly/2hxcAXL) that Victoria Lynn Smith was stabbed in the neck at an assisted living apartment building. Her death Wednesday is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers are still reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing neighbors and relatives, but Barkell said Thursday that police have arrested 35-year-old David Richmond. Barkell says Richmond was the last person seen leaving Smith’s apartment. Richmond is not speaking with investigators.

Richmond was arrested on Nov. 6 for vehicle theft, disorderly conduct and partner or family member assault. Barkell says Smith was not the victim of the earlier assault.
