JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A man is recovering at a Jackson hospital after being shot by a police officer responding to a domestic disturbance call.

Jackson Police Cmdr. Tyree Jones said Brandon Jones, 25, was involved in an altercation with a woman at a motel late Friday. As police arrived, Jones was found sitting in a car with his seat reclined and a pistol on his chest.

Jones said officers spoke with the suspect and tried to disarm him but he allegedly reached for his weapon. Jones said an officer fired, striking the man multiple times. He is listed in stable condition. Police said he could face charges upon his release from the hospital.

Jones said Saturday that the suspect had outstanding active warrants for his arrest for domestic violence and various traffic violations.

Jones said the officer who shot the suspect was not hurt and will be placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
