EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old girl was arrested for setting her family home on fire.

KOMO-TV reports that a Washington State Patrol trooper found the girl when he noticed what he thought was a disabled car on state Route 28 Friday morning. The sheriff’s office says the girl told the trooper that she had set fire to her family home.

Deputies went to the East Wenatchee home and found her parents sleeping. There was no fire but a large section of carpeting had been burned. No one was hurt.

The sheriff’s office says deputies found that some type of lighter fluid had been poured up the stairs to the parents’ room as well as to her brother’s room.

Authorities say the girl told investigators that her plan was for her parents and 4-year-old brother to die of smoke inhalation.
