PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an armed robbery suspect is dead after officers confronted him and a struggle ended with police shooting the man.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Mercedes Fortune says officers responded to a convenience store robbery late Friday morning. The officers were given a description of the suspect, who was armed with a knife.

Fortune says officers spotted the man and confronted him. He refused to comply and a Taser was used but was ineffective on the suspect. The situation escalated, and one officer fatally shot the man.

No officers were injured. The man was pronounced dead by Phoenix Fire Department crews.
