OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A 24-year-old Oklahoma City man has been sentenced to life in prison for the death of a 2-year-old girl after pleading no contest to first-degree murder and child abuse.

The Oklahoman newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/2itdtBE ) that Justin Williams Lawson took a plea deal from prosecutors that could make him eligible for parole after he spends about 38 years in prison.

Prosecutors alleged that the victim, Shaleah Cudjo, was fatally injured in September 2015 while Lawson was caring for her in a house he shared with the girl’s mother.

In the plea paperwork, Lawson acknowledged that prosecutors would be able to prove that he struck the victim “more than once causing massive internal injuries … which caused the child to bleed to death.”

Lawson entered the no contest plea on Dec. 19.
