MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say two men have been shot to death in separate killings within a 2-hour span in Lauderdale County.

The Meridian Star reports (https://bit.ly/2h8aC0C ) that the first killing happened around 12:40 a.m. Sunday near a highway overpass in Meridian. Authorities said the man was found in the middle of the road near a rented vehicle, its engine still running and its wipers on. Coroner Clayton Cobler said he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Star reports that the second shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday, along Highway 495 outside Meridian. Cobler said the victim was taken to Anderson Regional Medical Center, but died around 3 a.m.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released, and no arrests were reported in either case.
