MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - A Philadelphia-area mother and her boyfriend are set to stand trial on third-degree murder charges in the death of her 2-year-old son.
The Delaware County Daily Times (https://bit.ly/2gYvibh ) says 30-year-old Shannon Matthews and 31-year-old Daniel Grafton of Glenolden are set for trial Monday in Common Pleas Court.
The newspaper says prosecutors offered both a plea deal with sentences of 12 to 24 years each, but they were rejected. The couple has pleaded not guilty.
Little Mason Hunt died Feb. 3 death after District Attorney Jack Whelan says the boy was “terrorized during the last two days of his life.” Doctors later determined the boy died from non-accidental blunt force trauma to his trunk.
The defendants each face up to 82 years in prison if they’re convicted of all charges.
