WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (AP) - Webster City police say a local school board has been arrested and charged in a sex abuse case.

Police tell Des Moines television station KCCI (https://bit.ly/2hesZkO ) that 64-year-old Paul Steven Stenger, of Webster City in central Iowa, has been charged with lascivious acts with a child and second-degree sexual abuse. If convicted, Stenger could face up to 35 years in prison.

Police say the arrest stems from allegations made against Stenger by a person under 18 who says the abuse occurred over the past two years.

Stenger was elected to the Webster City Community Schools board last year, according the school system’s website. His term runs through 2019.

A Hamilton County Jail official said Stenger was released from the jail Tuesday. Calls to Stenger’s home on Tuesday rang unanswered.
