NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A registered sex offender charged with brandishing a knife and trying to drag a woman into the woods has been held without bail.

Authorities said Monday that 53-year-old Roger Corbin, of North Kingstown, was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon and assault to commit a felony. It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney.

The woman told police she was walking on Devil’s Foot Road last week when a man in a ski mask grabbed her from behind, brandished a knife and tried to drag her into the woods.

The woman escaped and the suspect ran off.

The attorney general’s office says Corbin is a level three sex offender - considered high risk - who pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges in 1990.
