JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Bail has been set at $4 million for a man accused of fatally stabbing his mother and grandmother in their Jersey City home.

Kevin Hodges faces murder and weapons charges stemming from Monday night’s attack. But authorities haven’t said what provoked the incident.

The 36-year-old Hodges didn’t enter a plea during his initial court appearance Tuesday. He tried to make a statement, but eventually declined on the advice of his attorney.

Hudson County prosecutors say 56-year-old Rebecca Hodges and her 76-year-old mother, Dorothy Bradshaw, both suffered multiple stab wounds.

Police went to their Randolph Avenue home shortly before 8:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported someone there was screaming for help. Officers had to use a fire escape to get inside and they soon found the two women unresponsive.
