CLEVELAND (AP) - An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges for fatally shaking and beating his 1-month-old daughter earlier this year.
A plea agreement calls for 22-year-old Maurice Quarles, of Cleveland, to serve 25 years to life in prison. Quarles entered his guilty pleas Wednesday in a Cleveland courtroom on the day his trial was set to begin. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 3.
Police say Quarles in April shook and beat Genesis Quarles and struck the infant’s 17-year-old mother when she tried to intervene. Genesis died a hospital. Her mother was treated for a head injury.
Quarles’ attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday.
