PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - Roosevelt County in eastern New Mexico says it’s standing behind its sheriff after a local attorney made claims in court that the sheriff lied to get arrest warrants.
The county says in a news release that the petition filed by attorney Eric Dixon is “frivolous action” without legal basis or justification.
The petition claims Parker lied about a confidential informant to get arrest warrants for five people suspected of selling drugs in the county. It seeks a jury trial against Parker.
County manager Amber Hamilton says the county will continue to fully support Parker. The county also says Parker was investigated and cleared in the allegations against him.
