ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Rodney McKay ran for two touchdowns in the first half of undefeated Pahokee High Schools’s 34-21 win over Baker School for the Florida Class 1A football championship.
Tyron Arnett caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Tyrone Smith during Thursday’s game to help the Blue Devils (14-0) open up a two-touchdown lead late in the third quarter. Roy Walker clinched the victory with a 52-yard interception return with 4:27 remaining.
It is the first state championship for Pahokee since three straight Class 2B titles in 2006-08.
Baker held McKay to 63 yards on 12 carries but could not overcome three turnovers in its first four possessions.
The Gators (13-1) drove to the Pahokee 1-yard line in the closing seconds of the first half, but Christopher Dent sacked Kalee Ciurleo as time expired, leaving Pahokee with a 14-0 halftime lead.
