NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A coroner has released the name and age of a man shot to death by Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies after a chase that led them into New Orleans.

New Orleans Coroner Jeffrey Rouse said Wednesday that the man was 22-year-old Eric Harris. His city of residence wasn’t immediately available.

Harris died Monday night. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said a deputy had approached the man at Oakwood Mall after three people reported he had brandished a gun. There was an altercation before the man got to his car and drove off. He led deputies across a Mississippi River bridge into New Orleans, where he crashed into a pole. Normand said Monday that when the man put the car in reverse, deputies opened fire.

Rouse said Harris had multiple gunshot wounds.
