NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans Police recruit has been suspended after his arrest for alleged drunk driving.
Police said in a news release that about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, officers were investigating a multi-car accident on Interstate 10. They stopped a driver who was trying to steer around the blocked-off area.
Police say Gerald Elwood III was booked with multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated and failure to obey police officers. He’s in the recruiting class that began training in December. Police said he will not attend training sessions while suspended.
Booking records for Elwood were not yet available online. It was unclear whether he had an attorney who could speak for him.
