TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham police officer has been accused of handcuffing his girlfriend, holding her against her will and throwing her into walls and down the stairs.

Trussville police Capt. Jeff Bridges tells news outlets that 36-year-old Adam Voss was arrested early Saturday on a charge of third-degree domestic violence assault.

A judge on Monday granted a temporary restraining order against Voss, ordering him to leave the Trussville home he shares with his girlfriend and her two young children.

Voss, a 12-year veteran of the Birmingham Police Department, is on administrative leave, per the department’s standard procedure with any criminal arrest.

The woman says in court records that Voss also punched her on New Year’s Day.

It is unclear whether Voss has an attorney to respond to the charge.
