CLINTON, Tenn. (AP) - A former Anderson County commissioner and retired Anderson County teacher is accused of stealing from $100,000 from his church.

WATE-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1SkrYDJ) James Michael Cox handled finances at Longfield Baptist Church in Rocky Top. According to Anderson County District Attorney Dave Clark, Cox is charged with stealing from the church for three years beginning in 2011.

Clark said Cox surrendered Thursday and was being held on a $75,000 bond. Jail records did not indicate whether Cox has an attorney.

As a first time offender, Cox could face a sentence of 8-12 years if found guilty.
