BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says a 52-year-old Marksville man is accused of dumping thousands of tires in Avoyelles and Pointe Coupee parishes.

Department spokesman Greg Langley says in a news release that Daniel Lachney could face up to a year in prison and a $25,000 fine on each charge if convicted.

He says Lachney allegedly dumped 622 waste tires in Lettsworth and more than 2,000 at a house he rented in the Pointe Coupee town of Hessmer.

Lachney could not be reached for comment Wednesday. Phone numbers from directory assistance and an online database all had been disconnected.

Langley says Lachney was arrested in October on the Avoyelles Parish charges, and was arrested Friday in Avoyelles Parish and taken to Pointe Coupee Parish to face the charge there.
