SUMAS, Wash. (AP) - A Sumas man accused of sexually abusing a young girl over several years has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Bellingham Herald reports (https://goo.gl/eHbn8x ) that 45-year-old Charlton “Lee” Cisneros was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges of solicitation to commit rape of a child.

Cisneros was arrested after the girl told a babysitter in August 2014 that he had molested her.

An investigation by the Department of Corrections found that Cisneros raped and molested the child almost nightly for seven years.

Court documents say Cisneros initially denied the allegations, but later told police it was “possible something could have happened” when he was drunk at a Sumas motel with the girl.

Cisneros apologized in court Wednesday, saying that he takes full responsibility and hopes the victim “can stay strong.”
