EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - An Everett police lieutenant has been fired in connection with his drunken driving arrest in August.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1oxsnGp ) that 60-year-old Jimmy Phillips was dismissed Wednesday after an internal investigation at the police department found him unfit for duty.

Phillips was arrested for drunken driving after a rollover crash near Kennewick on Aug. 25. He had his prosecution deferred for five years, meaning he won’t be convicted unless he has more legal trouble - a common outcome for people without prior DUI charges.

Chief Dan Templeman said in a statement that he appreciates Phillips’ years of service, but that his actions violate the department’s values.

Phillips had worked with the department for 25 years.
