DENVER (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man accused of stabbing his 6-year-old son and sexually assaulting the mother of his second child at knife-point.

The Arapahoe County sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Brandon Johnson was arrested Friday while hospitalized for self-inflicted stab wounds. Johnson faces charges including first-degree murder and sex assault stemming from the Wednesday incident.

Court records don’t list his attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Investigators say the woman ran to a neighbor’s house, where she called police to say she had been attacked by her male partner. The couple’s 2-year-old son was unharmed.

A deputy rushing to the scene behind an ambulance was also critically injured after his patrol car was hit by a turning vehicle. The sheriff’s office was seeking blood donations to help the 25-year veteran.
