FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - A Preston County man accused of fatally shooting a woman in Fairmont has pleaded not guilty.
Media outlets report that 56-year-old Jeffrey Hovatter of Newburg pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder on Thursday.
Police say that in July 2015, Hovatter entered a Fairmont house and shot his ex-wife, 62-year-old Nancy Shaw, in the head. He then turned the gun on himself. After surviving the gunshot, Hovatter was arrested.
Marion County Judge David Janes denied a request from Hovatter’s attorney, Neal Hamilton, for bail.
Hovatter’s trial will likely be in July or August.
