SHIRLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a teenage boy has been arrested and is accused of setting a fellow student’s hair on fire at a school on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the 13-year-old was arrested after the Friday morning incident at the William Paca Middle School in Shirley.

Investigators said the 14-year-old girl whose hair was set ablaze did not need to go to a hospital. They say a teacher put out the fire.

Officials with the William Floyd School District said in a statement posted on the school’s website that the district has “zero tolerance for this type of behavior” and that they were working with police.

They say the girl declined medical attention and went home with her parents.
