FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The new chancellor at the University of Arkansas says he wants to increase the university’s enrollment with students from Arkansas.

The university’s fall 2015 enrollment of 26,754 is about 7,500 more than the fall 2008 enrollment and the university says much of that growth is from out-of-state students - especially students from Texas. About 4,900 freshmen enrolled last fall with the university reporting 51 percent of those students coming from outside Arkansas.

Chancellor Joe Steinmetz told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1RVzunu ) that a 50-50 split between in- and out-of-state students would be good as long as UA is admitting more Arkansas students than ever before.

Steinmetz became chancellor on Jan. 1 after being hired in October to replace retired Chancellor G. David Gearhart.
