SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a young mountain lion spotted in a Santa Cruz neighborhood has been tranquilized, captured and released back into the wild.

A spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said the approximately 1- to 2-year-old female was spotted in a foothill neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Hughan said game wardens followed the cougar for hours before they were able to immobilize the animal early Sunday.

He said the cougar was seen eating a deer carcass nearby, suggesting that people were feeding deer in the area.
