SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say an Oregon State Police trooper was thrown from his parked patrol car along Interstate 5 when another motorist struck his vehicle near Salem.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said that Trenton Simon of Scio was driving south on I-5 in the fast lane Monday afternoon when he took his eyes off the road. Deputies say when Simon looked up, traffic had slowed and he swerved onto the shoulder to avoid a collision.
Officials say Simon then struck the vehicle of Trooper Jason Davis. The impact caused Davis to be ejected from the vehicle and onto the shoulder. Simon’s car then rolled and came to rest in one of the freeway lanes.
Officials say neither was seriously injured.
Simon was given a citation for careless driving.
