CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire has released her first statewide television ad of her re-election campaign, featuring her 11-year-old daughter, Kate.
The ad released Monday highlights Ayotte’s role as a mother, wife, and former state attorney general. It shows Ayotte playing basketball with her daughter, and Kate saying, “She could still learn a few things from me - just like I’ve learned a lot from her.”
Ayotte, first elected in 2010, faces Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan in a competitive race.
Hassan’s campaign called Ayotte’s ad a “distraction from her failure to do her constitutional duty” to consider a Supreme Court nominee after Justice Antonin Scalia’s death. Ayotte has said she won’t meet with a nominee should President Barack Obama name one.
The campaign is spending $300,000 to run the ad.
