LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A West Texas man has died of injuries he incurred in the collapse of a Lubbock park pedestrian bridge under an excavator he was operating.

A city statement says 57-year-old Mark Fort died Monday morning at a Lubbock hospital.

Fort was injured Feb. 19 when a pedestrian bridge at Mae Simmons Park collapsed as he was driving a skid-loader onto it. Witnesses say he spent five to 10 minutes inside the submerged excavator until rescue crews could break its windshield and pull him out.
