FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Thousands of people in far north Fort Worth must boil their water for drinking, cooking and making ice due to problems with a city tank.

The Fort Worth Water Department issued the boil water order Thursday. Officials say operational error wrongly led to draining of an elevated tank and loss of water pressure.

The advisory says all restaurants in the affected area are closed until the boil water notice is lifted, no sooner than Friday, amid testing of the supplies.

Six Northwest Independent School District campuses are affected.

Bottled water will be used at V.R. Eaton High School, Truett Wilson Middle School, Sonny & Allegra Nance Elementary School, Carl E. Schluter Elementary School, J.C. Thompson Elementary School and Sendera Ranch Elementary School.

Prepackaged foods will be used for meals.
