DETROIT (AP) - Registrations for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan’s initiative to get jobs for city youth ages 14-24 this summer have topped 1,200 less than 48 hours after launch.

A goal of 8,000 jobs was announced Tuesday for Duggan’s “Grow Detroit’s Young Talent” initiative. His office said Thursday that 1,289 online registrations were completed, and another 1,500 were in progress or saved. Two in-person registration events are being held Saturday.

In its inaugural year in 2015, the initiative connected nearly 5,600 young residents with work experiences and job skills.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the mayor’s office, City Connect Detroit, Detroit Employment Solutions Corp. and others.
