GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - An 18-year-old Chinook High School student was killed when his car collided with a semitrailer on U.S. Highway 2 east of Chinook near Zurich.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the teen’s westbound car crossed the center line and struck the semi head-on at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The patrol says the semi caught fire, but the driver escaped without serious injury. The crash blocked the highway for about six hours.

Blaine County Undersheriff Frank Billmayer II said Jesse Reid-Dannels died of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Havre Daily News reports Reid-Dannels finished second in his weight class at the Northern B-C divisional wrestling meet in Chinook on Saturday, qualifying for the state tournament in Billings. He also was a starting lineman on Chinook’s state championship football team.
