ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - A massive sculpture honoring a photograph of a kiss in Times Square that captured New York’s celebration as World War II ended is expected to visit a Detroit suburb as part of efforts to raise money for war memorial.
Debbie Hollis, president of the Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial group, tells The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak (https://bit.ly/1Q5u7wp ) that the 25-foot-tall sculpture by Seward Johnson is one of four in the U.S. and Europe that have drawn large numbers of sightseers.
Royal Oak city commissioners signed off on the plan on Monday and agreed to insure the sculpture.
Efforts are ongoing to raise $3 million for the Michigan memorial, which is planned for Memorial Park. Plans call for an amphitheater and interactive displays.
