WARSAW, N.Y. (AP) - A rural western New York woman is charged with murdering another woman who was found dead over the weekend in her nearby home.

Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O’Geen says 38-year-old Kira Kastenhuber of Perry is jailed without bail Tuesday, a day after being released from a Rochester hospital, where she was treated for an apparent overdose.

Following her release from the hospital, Kastenhuber pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Desirae Withey, whose body was found Saturday after one of Withey’s children alerted a neighbor. Authorities say Withey had been asphyxiated.

Kastenhuber is due back in Warsaw Village Court on Friday. She’s represented for now by the county public defender’s office. Public Defender Norman Effman says she has yet to be interviewed, so he couldn’t comment on the charges.
