ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Prosecutors say they will seek a death sentence if a man is convicted of killing three people in Buncombe County.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (https://avlne.ws/1SFJy5v) that Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams has asked for a hearing to notify court officials that a death sentence will be sought.

Twenty-three-year-old Pierre Lamont Griffin II is charged with killing three people on Oct. 27.

Prosecutors say Griffin killed 20-year-old Tatianna Diz and 22-year-old Alexandra King before dumping their bodies in the French Broad. Their remains were found more than a week later.

Officials say shortly before those shootings, Griffin went to an apartment and killed 31-year-old Uhon Trumanne Johnson before leading police on a high-speed chase across three counties.

It’s unclear when a trial might occur.
