GRANDVILLE, Mich. (AP) - A western Michigan woman who adopted a girl with severe brain injuries sustained as an infant wants charges after the 5-year-old girl’s death.

The girl, Alexis, had permanent disabilities requiring around-the-clock care. The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1QoqtOS ) Alexis lived at Kim Hargrove’s home in Grandville since 2012 and her new family sought to show her love as doctors predicted she wouldn’t live long.

Alexis died Dec. 14, 2015, of medical complications from her brain injuries. A death certificate filed in Kent County lists her death as a homicide.

The medical examiner says the girl was injured in 2010 in Oakland County’s Highland Township, where she lived with her birth parents.

No arrests have been made related to her death. Hargrove says she’s been told the case is open.
