ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A resident of Mexico has been arrested after federal drug agents reported finding more than 12 pounds of heroin in his luggage at an Albuquerque bus station.
Prosecutors say 38-year-old Ricardo Raul Murrietta-Romero made his initial appearance Monday in federal court in Albuquerque.
He’s accused of possessing heroin with intent to distribute.
It was unclear if Murrietta-Romero has a lawyer yet for his case.
He lives in Nogales, Mexico and was arrested Sunday.
Prosecutors say Murrietta-Romero remains in federal custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing, both scheduled for Tuesday.
They say he faces between 10 years in federal prison and a life sentence if he’s convicted in the case.
