NEW YORK (AP) - Sanitation officials have issued a snow alert ahead of expected precipitation in New York City.
The Department of Sanitation says in a statement Monday agencies have been alerted for possible snow beginning Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Officials say agencies should prepare for a potential response to heavy downfall by loading salt spreaders and lining up personnel as needed.
But National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Pollina says rain will begin falling Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m., turning into snow by 6 p.m. or later.
He says not much is expected to fall, describing the predicted downpour as no more than a “coating.”
He says the high temperature on Tuesday will be in the mid-40s, dropping to the low 30s by the evening.
