CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Some students are beings sent home from school early as West Virginia sees its first snow accumulations this winter.

The National Weather Service said up to 5 inches of snow are expected in mountainous areas of eastern West Virginia through Tuesday night. Northern West Virginia could get a couple of inches of snow, while western and southern parts of the state are expected to get only a dusting.

WCSH-TV reports that several school districts dismissed at noon Tuesday because of the weather. That includes McDowell County, Fayette County and Raleigh County.



The weather service says windy conditions are expected, especially in higher elevations.
