PHOENIX (AP) - A former homeless shelter employee is suspected of stealing social security benefits from a resident.
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said Thursday that a grand jury indicted Sergio Solorzano on four felony counts including fraudulent schemes and artifices, theft, taking the identity of another and unlawful use of an access device.
Solorzano was an administrative assistant who had access to the personal information of the Phoenix Rescue Mission’s residents.
According to the indictment, Solorzano took nearly $25,000 in benefits from a 69-year-old homeless man between January 2013 and October 2015.
The Attorney General’s Office says Solorzano admitted to making withdrawals using a pre-loaded debit card that was mailed to the victim each month.
Solorzano is being held on bond.
It is not known if he has an attorney.
