CULLMAN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a large fire destroyed the children’s building and caused heavy smoke damage to the sanctuary of a north Alabama church.

WHNT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1OBuPSk) that the blaze at Simcoe Worship Center in Cullman County began shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, when passing motorists spotted smoke.

The station reports that the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is helping to investigate, which is standard for church fires.

Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry tells The Cullman Times (https://bit.ly/1ntS4qZ) that the cause of the blaze was not known.
