MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Morgantown police say a 20-year-old Charleston woman has died in an apparent hit-and-run.

Police say witnesses told them that Carli Elizabeth Sears was struck by a black pickup truck at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Sears was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she died.

Media outlets report that Sears was a junior at the University of Mississippi.

Police Chief Ed Preston said 19-year-old Alexander Hambrick came to the police station Monday and was charged with violating “Erin’s Law,” which makes leaving the scene of a traffic fatality a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Hambrick was being held for arraignment. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police said the vehicle suspected of hitting Sears was being processed for evidence, and the investigation was continuing.
