ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) - Two people have been killed in a collision near Atlantic in western Iowa.

The accident was reported a little after 11 a.m. Tuesday on Iowa Highway 83, just east of Iowa Highway 173. The Iowa State Patrol says an eastbound car lost control on a curve, crossed the center line and struck a westbound pickup.

The car driver and her passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 49-year-old Melissa Jones, of Walnut, and 39-year-old John Maxwell, of Atlantic. The pickup driver was taken to a hospital. He was identified as 57-year-old Dennis Weihs, of Marne.
