ALBION, Ill. (AP) - Hundreds of people lined the streets as a hearse went through the southern Illinois city of Albion carrying the remains of an airman listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War.

The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the remains of Pfc. Kenneth Leroy Cunningham of Ellery were recovered. They arrived in Louisville, Kentucky, Tuesday morning and were taken to Albion.

Cunningham went missing on Oct. 3, 1969, when he was 21.



The Evansville Courier & Press reports (https://bit.ly/1Sx2pz9) that volunteers lined the route through Albion with about 2,400 full-size American flags.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the Little Prairie Christian Church west of Albion. Cunningham’s funeral will be Thursday at the church.

Albion is about 50 miles northwest of Evansville, Indiana.
