LINDALE, Texas (AP) - Authorities are seeking a gunman suspected of fatally shooting a police dog following an East Texas traffic stop.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Tyler says the search continued Wednesday for 35-year-old Michael Paul Koch (KAHCH) of Grand Saline (gran suh-LEEN’). He’s considered armed and dangerous.
A vehicle with Koch and two other people was pulled over Tuesday afternoon near Lindale by a constable with the K-9 named Ogar. Authorities say Koch ran into some woods, Ogar followed and the constable heard gunfire.
Sheriff Larry Smith says Ogar was shot multiple times. The other two people in the vehicle were detained for questioning.
Koch is wanted for evading arrest and interference with a police service animal by killing. He also faces an evading arrest warrant in neighboring Van Zandt County.
